다음은 실제 비행 중 있을 수 있는 상황을 영어로 설명한 내용입니다. 해석해 보시고 승무원 필수 표현을 익히실 수 있습니다. 이 번 포스트는 특히 비행전 준비 상황입니다. 승무원들은 비행 이륙 3-5시간 전부터 운항 브리핑및 객실 브리핑을 통해 비행에 대한 전반적인 준비를 한 후 승객이 탑승 하기전에 비행기에 들어와 많은 준비를 합니다. 그리고 승객이 도착 하면 다음과 같은 상황들이 생기지요.

Unit 1Pre-Flight :Before Taking Off – Role Play Scenario 이륙전

Pre-Flight interactions between a flight attendant and a passenger, focusing on common situations and useful phrases.

Characters:

• Alex: Flight Attendant
• Jordan: Passenger

Setting:

The scene unfolds on a commercial airliner. Passengers are boarding, and the cabin crew is assisting them with their luggage and guiding them to their seats. The atmosphere is bustling yet orderly as the flight prepares for departure.

The Encounter

Alex: Good morning! Welcome aboard. May I see your boarding pass, please?

Jordan: Good morning! Sure, here it is.

Alex: Thank you, Mr. Jordan. You’re in seat 14C, just down the aisle on your right-hand side.

Jordan: Thank you. Could you help me with my carry-on? It’s a bit heavy.

Alex: Of course, let me assist you with that. There you go, it’s safely stored in the overhead compartment now.

Jordan: I appreciate your help, thank you.

비행기가 이륙하기 전 승무원이 하는 주요 임무는 좌석 안내와 함께 승객 좌석 위에 짐을 보관하는 overhead bin(compartment)가 확실히 닫혔는지 확인하는 것입니다. 그래서 일부 항공사들이 승무원 채용 시 arm reach 를 확인하기도 합니다. 승무원 키가 너무 작아서 오버헤드 빈에 손이 닿지 않는다면 곤란하잖아요. 그래서 어느 정도 승무원의 키를 확인하고 채용 하지만 요즈음은 항공사에 따라서 다 다르답니다. 155센티미터만 넘어도 채용되는 항공사도 있어요. 

Seating and Comfort

Alex: Here you are, seat 14C. Would you like a blanket or a pillow for the flight?

Jordan: Yes, a pillow would be nice, thank you.

Alex: Here you are. And here’s a safety card. Please take a moment to look it over before we take off.

Jordan: Will do. Thanks.

이 대화에 나오는 a safety card는 비행기 앞좌석에 비상시 행동과 비행기 탈출구 등을 그림과 함께 설명하는 설명서를 말합니다. 이륙 전 보통비상시 행동에 대한 비디오를 승객들에게 보여주지요. 

Pre-Flight Checks and Requests

Alex: Mr. Jordan, would you please fasten your seatbelt? We’re about to begin our pre-flight safety demonstration.

Jordan: Oh, sure.

(After a few moments)

Jordan: Excuse me, could I have a glass of water before we take off?

Alex: Certainly, I’ll bring it right over. Here you are.

Jordan: Thanks. I have another question. Is it possible to switch to an aisle seat? I realized I might need to get up more often than I thought.

Alex: Let me check if we have any available aisle seats. (Pauses to check) Yes, we do have one available. It’s seat 16D, just two rows back. Would you like to move there?

Jordan: That would be great, thank you.

Alex: Not a problem. Here, let me help you with your belongings.

승무원은 안전을 위해 이륙 전 승객들의 좌석벨트를 착용여부를 반드시 확인해야 합니다. 이 때 많이 사용하는 표현이 ‘Fasten your seatbelt’ 입니다. 그리고 pre-flight safety demonstratin은 이륙전 비상시 행동과 탈출구 등을 방송안내에 따라 승무원이 몸짓으로 설명하는 것입니다. 보통 비디오로 대체하지만 아주 작은 비행기일 경우 승무원이 직접 보여줍니다. 산소마스크 위치, 비상 탈출구 위치, 구명 조끼 입는 법 등입니다. 

그리고 좌석에 관한 대화가 많이 오고가니 좌석 용어도 익혀두면 좋습니다. 통로석은 aisle seat 그리고 창가좌석은 window seat 이라고 합니다. 

Safety and Regulations

Alex: Before we continue, I need to ensure your carry-on is properly stored under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. And, as we’re preparing for takeoff, please ensure your seat back is in the upright position, your tray table is stowed, and all electronic devices are in airplane mode.

Jordan: Got it. I’ll make sure everything is set.

Alex: Thank you. Also, for your safety, we recommend keeping your seatbelt fastened throughout the flight even when the seatbelt sign is off.

Jordan: I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for the reminder.

그리고 승무원들은 이륙 전에 승객들의 좌석도 뒤로 기울이지 않고 원래 있던 상태에 있도록 확인해야 합니다. 즉, 좌석이 upright position에 있도록 해야하고 좌석에 딸려 있는 tray (식사 시 사용하는 받침)도 제자리에 두어야 합니다. 모두 안전을 위해서죠. 혹시라도 비행중 비행기가 많이 흔들리는 경우 앞뒤 좌석 혹은 tray에 신체가 부딪힐 수 있으니까요. 그리고 비행기의 흔들림 turbulance는 예상치 못한 순간에 갑자기 발생할 수 있기 때문에 승객들은 항상 안전벨트를 착용하도록 승무원들은 돕습니다.

Final Preparations

Alex: It looks like we’re almost ready for takeoff. Do you have any last-minute questions or concerns?

Jordan: No, I think I’m all set. Thanks for all your help.

Alex: It’s my pleasure. If you need anything during the flight, don’t hesitate to call for us. Enjoy your flight!

Jordan: I will, thank you!
